Blogg Klimatredovisning p...

In September 2014 the EU adopted a welcome directive to increase companies’ reporting about their impact on society and the environment, so-called “non-financial” information. Initiatives such as CDP and GRI have demonstrated that reporting can lead to action and it’s clear to me that “what gets measured gets done”.

The proposal before the Swedish parliament is that any large company or group of companies, with over 250 employees, will be required to report. According to CSR Sweden the regulations would cover about 2500 companies. All of these companies will need to gather some information from their suppliers, so many smaller companies will also be affected.

There’s no precise template but the proposal is that reporting should broadly follow the UN Global Compact principles. Some environmental indicators are specifically named, including energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water use. So it looks as though “klimatredovisning” will become routine in many more companies. With this, and the general trend towards reporting more Scope 3 emissions, we’re definitely moving in the right direction!
